Creating to Close a Client

Takara Sake USA, Inc., based in Berkeley, CA, specializes in flavored sake. They sent over some of their beautifully packaged products to our Studio, and we got to work on creating some unique social media content. We shot several stills and a few motion pieces in hopes that our work would wow and ultimately win their business. [Spoiler Alert: It did 😏]

Some of my favorite pieces we created for Takara are actually from the very first shoot we did. I think that’s for a couple of reasons. As we start working for a client, often requests become more specific. There are rules to follow which can limit (or should I say challenge) creativity. For example, with Takara, bottles always had to be full. Nails in photos were to be short. Backgrounds were to be clear of “distracting objects.” And the product was to be centered in all shots.

The first shoot we did was a combination effort of my direction and Dustin Harrelson’s talent. It was our first time working together, actually. Little did we know that together we were quite the team.

Here’s a vlog-style video documenting that shoot at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens.

What are some limitations or challenges to your creativity that you’ve experienced? And how did you overcome them?

Leave me a comment! I’d love to discuss.

All work done at Sociallyin Studios.
